Since the AppStore reached 1 billion downloads this week, we wanted to take the opportunity to show you some stats about how the free edition of WorldView is doing since its launch on 20th October 2008.

The beginning

On christmas time last year we announced 300000 downloads of WorldView. That was already a big surprise to us. The app has been number 1 in the overall downloads charts in several countries like Germany, Switzerland and Romania and had Top 10 positions in lots of more countries like Austria, France, Belgium, Greece, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia and others! We were really blown away! By end of January the app has reached 450000 downloads showing an average of 150000 downloads per month....

Apple has just approved version 1.3.1 of WorldView free edition! This updated provides the following enhancements:

• Support for CloudMade map support, the user can switch to Google maps in the settings
• Introducing a new icon and splash screen
• Russian translation (Thanks to Alexandr!)
• Integrate bug reporter functionality (As discussed this this blog post)
• Numerous bugfixes
• Improved performance of bookmarks and random screen

WorldView free edition has been selected to be featured in the german, austrian, british, australian and New Zealand iTunes AppStore this week! WOW! Thanks Apple!

Due to a server problem at our hosting provider medietemple all data was gone for all our websites and the WorldView database serving all the bookmark backups. We are very sorry about the problems this has caused, but luckily the great guys at mediatemple were able to fix the issue and all data is back again!
